“Maharashtra Faces Severe Flooding; Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to Assess Damage in Pune”

Flood Fury in Maharashtra: Eknath Shinde to Visit Affected Areas in Pune

Maharashtra is grappling with severe flooding as heavy rainfall has caused significant disruptions in several regions, including Pune and Nashik. The situation has prompted state authorities to take urgent action.

In Nashik, twelve individuals remain stranded in Malegaon following a dramatic rise in the Girna River’s water level. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local fire department teams are actively engaged in rescue operations to reach those trapped by the floods. The region has been hit with 250 mm of rain over the past 48 hours, forcing the Gangapur dam to release water after reaching 86% of its capacity. Additionally, a 29-year-old man is reported missing due to the rising Godavari River levels. Several shops along the riverbank have been removed as a precaution, and local authorities have issued warnings to residents.

In Pune, areas such as Ekta Nagar have been heavily affected, with numerous homes flooded and evacuated. The Indian Army has been deployed to assist with rescue efforts in the worst-hit areas. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is scheduled to visit Pune today to inspect the damage, particularly in the Singhad Road area, and will engage with local residents to assess the situation.

The Palghar district has also been impacted by the weather, with heavy rain contributing to a road accident involving four speeding motorcycles. The crash resulted in seven injuries, four of which are critical.

The weather department has issued alerts for continued rain in Pune, Nashik, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Satara, and Ratnagiri. The widespread monsoon-induced devastation has been severe across India this year. In Kerala’s Wayanad, landslides have claimed over 300 lives. Flash floods in Himachal Pradesh have resulted in 13 deaths and numerous people missing. A cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir has led to the closure of the Srinagar-Leh national highway, isolating Kashmir Valley from Ladakh. Uttar Pradesh also remains affected by floods, with five fatalities reported from rain-related incidents.
