In a strategic move, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has named Mahua Moitra as the district president of Krishnanagar, the constituency she represents in the Lok Sabha. This development unfolds concurrently with the Lok Sabha ethics panel adopting a report recommending Moitra’s expulsion in the ongoing ‘cash for query’ case.
Expressing gratitude on social media, Moitra posted, “Thank you @MamataOfficial and @AITCofficial for appointing me District President of Krishnanagar (Nadia North). Will always work with the party for the people of Krishnanagar.” The Lok Sabha ethics panel’s 500-page report is grounded in its investigation into allegations that Moitra shared her Parliament portal login credentials with a businessman—an act deemed unethical by the panel.
The report, scheduled to be presented in the Lok Sabha on December 4 during the Winter Session, will prompt the government to move a motion on the same day for Moitra’s expulsion. Officials familiar with the matter suggest that the motion aligns with the recommendations put forth in the ethics committee report.
Dismissing the allegations as baseless, Moitra, in an interview with PTI, implicated a nexus between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Adani Group in the ethics panel report. She stated, “In the 500-page report, there was no mention of cash, because there isn’t any. Basically, everything is about not questioning. The Modi-Adani nexus is running the government, and because of this, the issue is how not to question… They are in panic.”
Moitra continued to assert that the motive behind the probe was to silence dissent, accusing the government of attempting to suppress voices raising concerns about the Adani Group’s actions. She further alleged that the BJP’s strategy was to keep issues quiet until January 22, when the Ram Mandir issue would dominate, allowing the party to regain political momentum.
As the political drama unfolds, Moitra’s new role within the TMC adds an interesting dimension to the evolving narrative surrounding the ‘cash for query’ controversy.
