Mumbai BMW Hit-and-Run: Main Accused Mihir Shah Arrested After 72 Hours

In a significant development, Mihir Shah, the main accused in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, has been apprehended by authorities. Shah, son of politician Rajesh Shah from Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, had evaded arrest for over 72 hours following the tragic incident.

The incident, which occurred early Sunday morning, claimed the life of 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa, who was fatally injured when Shah’s BMW collided with the two-wheeler she was riding with her husband, Pradip Nakhwa. The couple was reportedly on their way to buy fish for a family meal when the accident took place at 5:30 AM.

Police investigations revealed that Shah had been partying at a Juhu bar, where he spent ₹18,730 with friends before the fatal drive. The bar, named the Vice – Global Tapas, was sealed shortly before Shah’s arrest today.

Details emerged that Shah initially drove a Mercedes registered to his father for the evening’s festivities before switching to the BMW for a joyride on Marine Drive later that night. It was during this joyride that the fatal collision occurred.

CCTV footage of the incident was pivotal in the investigation, showing Shah allegedly swapping seats with Rajrishi Bidawat, who was initially thought to be driving when the collision happened. Shockingly, the footage also captured Shah pulling Kaveri Nakhwa’s body from under the car, only to reverse and run over her again before fleeing the scene.

Rajesh Shah, Mihir’s father, was briefly detained but released on bail, while Bidawat, the driver forced to switch seats with Shah, remains in police custody. The roles of Shah’s mother and two sisters, who were also arrested for aiding his evasion, are now under scrutiny by authorities.

The case has sparked outrage and demands for justice across Mumbai, with calls for strict action against all involved in the tragic incident. As investigations continue, authorities are pushing for charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the accused, highlighting the severity of the crime.
