A man in South Delhi was arrested 600 kilometers away in Uttar Pradesh after he set his neighbor’s car on fire following a parking dispute. The incident occurred in the Lajpat Nagar area late on the night of November 30, 2024, and was captured on CCTV.
The main accused, identified as Rahul Bhasin, had been involved in several arguments with his neighbor, Ranjeet Chauhan, over parking issues. In a fit of anger from one such dispute, Bhasin, along with two friends, decided to take extreme action. The trio was seen in CCTV footage arriving in a car, stepping out, and smashing the windshield of Chauhan’s parked vehicle. One of the men poured an inflammable liquid on the bonnet, while another set the car on fire. The three suspects quickly fled the scene after committing the crime.
This wasn’t the first time Bhasin had damaged Chauhan’s vehicle. Earlier, over a previous parking altercation, Bhasin had also vandalized the side mirrors of Chauhan’s car, for which an FIR had already been filed.
The police responded swiftly by forming a team to track down the suspects. With the help of technological surveillance, the police were able to trace the accused to Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, where they were arrested. As of now, seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Authorities continue to investigate the case, with officials emphasizing the role of community disputes in escalating to violent criminal acts.
