In a shocking incident that has left the public in disbelief, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the license of an ice cream manufacturer in Indapur, Pune, following allegations that a human finger was found in an ice cream cone. The complaint was made by a 26-year-old doctor from Malad West, who claimed to have discovered the finger while eating the ice cream on Wednesday.
“The premises of the ice cream manufacturer have been inspected by a team of FSSAI’s Western Region Office, and its license has been suspended,” the FSSAI stated in a reply to the news agency ANI. The inspection was conducted promptly after the alarming complaint was received, although the forensic lab report is still pending.
The manufacturer, who operates under a central license, is based in Indapur, Pune. The FSSAI also confirmed that they have collected samples from the premises for further investigation. Additionally, the State FDA has inspected the seller’s premises in Mumbai and taken samples of the specific batch in question.
The complainant, identified as Branded Ferro, recounted the disturbing incident to the police. He mentioned that his sister had visited him, and they had ordered three ice creams from Yumno through a grocery app, which were delivered at 10:10 pm. As he took a bite from one of the cones, he felt something unusual in his mouth. Upon closer inspection, he discovered what appeared to be a piece of a human finger.
Ferro promptly took a picture of the shocking find and shared it on the company’s Instagram page, seeking an explanation and warning other customers about the incident.
This incident has raised serious concerns about food safety standards and the quality control processes of the ice cream manufacturer involved. The FSSAI and the State FDA are conducting thorough investigations to determine how such a severe lapse in food safety could have occurred.
