A significant landslide today caused the Kishtwar-Paddar road in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district to be blocked, suspending all vehicular movement. The landslide occurred following light to moderate rainfall that affected isolated areas in the region.
A video of the event shows a substantial section of the hillside collapsing, with loose mud cascading down. The video captures the panic of onlookers, who can be heard screaming and fleeing the scene. Authorities quickly deployed machinery to clear the road, according to officials who spoke to PTI.
The weather department has issued an advisory warning of potential flash floods, landslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas due to expected moderate thunderstorms or lightning in the upcoming week.
