“Medical Team Performs Emergency Delivery in Kerala Bus, Just Outside Hospital Premises”

Doctors Deliver Kerala Woman's Baby Inside Bus, Right Outside Hospital

In a remarkable display of emergency medical care, doctors in Kerala delivered a baby girl inside a public bus, just outside a hospital. The 37-year-old woman, identified as Serina, was in labour and unable to be moved to the hospital due to the intensity of her pain.

The incident occurred on Wednesday as Serina, accompanied by her husband, was travelling on a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus from Thrissur to Kozhikode. Midway through the journey, Serina started experiencing labour pains, prompting immediate action from the bus crew and fellow passengers.

Realizing the urgency of the situation, the bus made an unscheduled stop at Thrissur’s Amala Hospital. However, given Serina’s advanced stage of labour and the risk associated with moving her, doctors decided to conduct the delivery right there inside the bus.

“Serina was in significant pain, and it was clear that she could not be transported safely to the hospital,” explained Dr. Yasir Sulaiman from Amala Hospital. “We had to act swiftly, so we delivered the baby inside the bus and ensured both mother and child were stable.”

Passengers were evacuated from the bus to create space for medical personnel to attend to Serina. Images circulating on social media captured the intense moments as doctors and nurses hurried to provide medical assistance in the unusual setting of a public transport vehicle.

Following the successful delivery, the newborn was immediately transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for further observation and care. Serina, too, is under medical observation to monitor her recovery post-delivery.

Dr. Sulaiman commended the quick response of the medical team, stating, “It was an unprecedented situation for us, but we managed to ensure the safety of both mother and baby. They are currently in stable condition, and we are monitoring their progress closely.”
