Mihir Shah, the prime suspect in Mumbai’s BMW hit-and-run case that tragically claimed the life of a 45-year-old woman, has confessed to being a habitual drinker during police interrogation, according to sources. The incident occurred early morning on July 6, when Shah allegedly struck a couple on a two-wheeler in Juhu after a night of partying at a local bar.
Police investigations revealed that Shah, aged 24 and son of politician Rajesh Shah from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, attempted to evade capture by altering his appearance. He reportedly shaved his beard and got a haircut at a barber shop in Virar, about 65 km away from Mumbai, in a bid to mislead law enforcement.
Authorities, deploying multiple teams, tracked Shah to an apartment in Virar after he had eluded capture for three days. His location was pinpointed when one of his associates briefly turned on their phone, aiding police in closing in on him.
The hit-and-run incident resulted in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa, a mother of two, while her husband Pradip Nakhwa sustained injuries. CCTV footage captured the chilling aftermath, showing Ms. Nakhwa being dragged for 1.5 km under the BMW before Shah allegedly moved her body, abandoned it on the road, and fled the scene.
Several individuals, including Shah’s parents and sisters, are currently in custody in connection with the case.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and accountability for such reckless acts. The investigation continues as authorities gather evidence and prepare charges against Mihir Shah.
