A shocking road rage incident in Mumbai’s Malad East area resulted in the tragic death of 27-year-old Akash Maeen, a worker for the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). The altercation occurred on Saturday evening at Shivaji Chowk when Maeen got into an argument with an autorickshaw driver, escalating into a violent confrontation.
Witnesses report that after the initial disagreement, a group of individuals supporting the autorickshaw driver surrounded Maeen. He was assaulted with punches and kicks, suffering severe injuries that ultimately led to his death. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The police have arrested nine individuals in connection with the case, with charges including murder and other offenses under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The first six arrests were made on Sunday, followed by an additional three on Monday as the investigation unfolded.
A viral video of the incident captures the chaos, showing a mob attacking Maeen while his mother desperately tried to shield him from the assailants. His father was also reported to have sustained injuries during the attack. At the time of the incident, Maeen was visiting his parents in Mumbai for the Dussehra festival, having traveled from Hyderabad where he lived with his wife, who works in a local company.
The couple had recently purchased a new scooter and were returning home from their parents’ house when the fatal altercation occurred. Initial reports suggest the argument was sparked when the autorickshaw driver allegedly swerved his vehicle in front of Maeen, leading to a heated exchange.
As investigations continue, the police are analyzing CCTV footage from the area to piece together the events leading up to the violent confrontation. The tragic incident has raised concerns about road rage and safety in the bustling metropolis, with many calling for stricter measures to prevent such violent outbreaks in the future.
