In a tragic incident on Sunday, nine Kanwariyas, or Shiva devotees, were electrocuted in Bihar when their vehicle came into contact with a high-tension overhead wire. The accident occurred in the Hajipur area of Vaishali district.
According to reports, the pilgrims were returning from Sonpur Pahleja Ghat in Jethui Nizamat village when their DJ vehicle collided with an electric pole. The vehicle, being unusually tall, touched a high-tension wire, resulting in the electrocution of the passengers.
In addition to the nine fatalities, six other pilgrims sustained injuries, with two reported to be in critical condition. They are currently receiving medical treatment at the Sadar Hospital in Hajipur.
Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Om Prakash stated that the height of the vehicle led to it making contact with the wire. “The vehicle was very high and it got entangled with the high-tension wire. We are continuing our investigation into the incident,” Prakash said.
The Kanwar Yatra, a major annual pilgrimage for Shiva devotees, involves carrying water from the Ganga River to offer to the deity during the month of Shravana. This event is known for its large gatherings and processions.
