PM Modi Sports Vibrant Multi-Coloured Turban and Brown Coat on Republic Day, Reflecting India's Rich Heritage

On the occasion of India’s 76th Republic Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the day in his signature style, donning a striking multi-coloured turban that symbolised his deep connection to the country’s rich cultural heritage. Known for his carefully chosen sartorial pieces, PM Modi’s attire on Republic Day has always garnered attention, and this year was no exception.

For the 2025 Republic Day celebrations, PM Modi wore a vibrant turban adorned with shades of red and yellow, representing the nation’s diversity and the vibrancy of its culture. This year, the turban was paired with a brown bandhgala coat with full sleeves, accessorised by a multi-coloured pocket square and churidar pants, creating a traditional yet contemporary look. His choice of headgear was a standout, further adding to his reputation for making patriotic statements through his clothing.

Before participating in the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, the Prime Minister took a moment to honour the nation’s fallen soldiers. He observed a two-minute silence, paying tribute to the sacrifices made by armed personnel who have selflessly protected the nation.

This year’s Republic Day celebrations were graced by a number of dignitaries, including President Droupadi Murmu and President H.E. Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia. PM Modi’s presence, along with his distinctive attire, highlighted India’s cultural richness while reflecting a deep sense of pride in the nation’s heritage and accomplishments.

Taking to social media, the Prime Minister shared his wishes for the nation, reflecting on the significance of the day: “Happy Republic Day. Today, we celebrate 75 glorious years of being a Republic. We bow to all the great women and men who made our Constitution and ensured that our journey is rooted in democracy, dignity, and unity. May this occasion strengthen our efforts towards preserving the ideals of our Constitution and working towards a stronger and prosperous India.”

Modi’s choice of turban has long been a subject of admiration, with each year’s headgear offering a glimpse into India’s diverse culture. In 2024, for the 75th Republic Day, he wore a multi-coloured turban with vibrant yellow hues, paired with a white kurta and brown Nehru jacket. His 2023 appearance featured a Rajasthani Bandhini print turban, which echoed India’s cultural diversity. In 2022, Modi wore a traditional cap from Uttarakhand with a Brahmakamal-inspired brooch, paying homage to the state flower of Uttarakhand. Similarly, his 2021 look featured a Jamnagar turban, gifted to him by the royal family of Jamnagar, Gujarat, symbolising his connection to the region.

The 2025 Republic Day marks yet another year where the Prime Minister’s choice of attire continues to reflect his reverence for India’s history, culture, and traditions, reinforcing the message of unity and patriotism across the nation.

Each year, PM Modi’s turbans and attire remind the nation of its rich cultural diversity, making his Republic Day appearance an eagerly awaited event. His multi-coloured turban for the 76th Republic Day is a testament to the pride and joy with which India celebrates its Constitution and the spirit of democracy.
