Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Ladakh on July 26 to mark the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, a significant occasion commemorating India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War. During his visit, Modi will pay tribute at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, Kargil district.
The celebrations for the ‘Rajat Jyanti’ of Kargil Vijay Diwas will be held from July 24 to 26 in Drass. Lt Governor Brigadier (Retd) B.D. Mishra has been overseeing the preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit, including a review meeting at the Lt Governor’s secretariat.
During the visit, PM Modi will land at the Drass Brigade Helipad on the morning of July 26, where he will be received by senior army officials. The arrangements include the setup of a green room at the helipad for the Prime Minister’s rest before proceeding to the Kargil War Memorial.
Major General Sachin Malik of the 8 Mountain Division has outlined the planned activities. Modi will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial, visit the ‘Shaheed Marg’ (Wall of Fame), and sign the visitors’ book. Additionally, he will inspect the Kargil War Museum, which displays various artefacts from the conflict.
The Prime Minister will also engage with ‘Veer Naris’ (war widows) and visit Veer Bhoomi. A briefing on the Kargil War and a group photograph are also scheduled. Modi will virtually inaugurate the ‘Shinku La Tunnel’ as part of his visit.
Security and logistical arrangements are being coordinated by the Special Protection Group (SPG), which will arrive on July 23 to liaise with the army, police, and civil administration to ensure a smooth visit.
The visit highlights the government’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices made during the Kargil War and underscores the significance of commemorating India’s military achievements.
