A policeman was injured in a fresh gunfight with terrorists in the Kota Top area of Doda district on Wednesday evening, marking the fourth such incident in three days. The clash began around 7:30 PM when contact was established with the terrorists, according to officials.
Head Constable Fareed Ahmed sustained injuries during the encounter in the Bhallessa region’s Kota Top area, part of the Gandoh sub-division. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Javed Iqbal confirmed the incident, stating that additional reinforcements have been dispatched to the area to support the ongoing operation.
SSP Iqbal emphasized that the terrorists involved in the Kota Top gunfight were different from those who attacked security personnel at Chattargala on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot road early Wednesday morning. A local resident noted that it would take approximately ten hours to travel on foot between Chattargala and Kota Top, indicating the significant distance between the two locations.
Kota Top, a meadow situated in the Khrangal Panchayat of Bhallessa, became the site of the latest confrontation. Officials reported that Head Constable Fareed Ahmed was evacuated from the encounter site and admitted to a hospital for treatment.
The encounter began when a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army’s 4 Rashtriya Rifles launched a cordon and search operation in the area. As the team approached the suspected hideout, the terrorists opened fire, prompting the forces to retaliate.
This incident is the latest in a series of violent encounters in the region, underscoring the ongoing security challenges faced by law enforcement and military personnel in Jammu and Kashmir.
