Prayagraj’s administration remains on high alert as the potential for flooding looms over the region. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted a comprehensive review of the flood preparations on Thursday, focusing on the Ganga and Yamuna rivers’ water levels.
During a video-conference, CM Adityanath received updates from officials who reported that the water level in the Ganga remains stable, while the Yamuna’s levels are receding. All flood outposts and relief camps are fully operational, and a flood control room is functioning around the clock to manage the situation.
Vinay Kumar Singh, ADM for finance and revenue, has instructed various departments—including water corporation, irrigation, municipal corporation, and civil defense—to maintain vigilance. The flood control room is prepared to accommodate up to 2,000 people in the relief camps.
Officials anticipate that water levels in both rivers could rise by 2 to 2.50 meters daily. As of Thursday, the Ganga’s water level at Phaphamau was recorded at 81.73 meters at 4 PM and 81.85 meters at 8 PM, while at Chhatnag, the level was 81.56 meters at 4 PM and 81.50 meters at 8 PM. The Yamuna’s levels at Naini were 82.03 meters at 4 PM and 81.99 meters at 8 PM.
Residents in vulnerable areas are actively moving their belongings to safer locations. In Kareli, over 1,000 homes have been affected by water ingress, prompting locals to prepare for potential evacuation. Areas such as Baghada and Salori are also on high alert, with residents beginning to relocate their household goods.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and water police are conducting regular patrols to ensure safety and prevent any incidents near the riverbanks. Despite the ongoing preparations, no residents have yet taken refuge in the relief camps.
