Puja Khedkar, a trainee IAS officer from the 2023 batch, finds herself in a deepening controversy as the central government initiates a probe into serious allegations surrounding her conduct and claims during her UPSC candidature.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), led by Additional Secretary Manoj Dwivedi, has commenced an investigation into Khedkar’s actions, which is expected to conclude within two weeks. The probe follows accusations of misusing power, misrepresentation of facts, and improper behavior, potentially jeopardizing her selection process into the civil services.
Khedkar sparked controversy earlier for using a siren on her private Audi and making demands for privileges such as a separate house and car, which are not typically granted to junior officers. These actions drew public scrutiny and led to her transfer from Pune to Washim after a complaint was filed by the Pune Collector.
According to sources, Khedkar faces the possibility of dismissal if found guilty of the allegations. Additionally, criminal action could be pursued if accusations of hiding facts and misrepresentation are substantiated.
Despite media inquiries, Khedkar has refrained from commenting on the allegations, stating that she lacks authorization to discuss the matter publicly.
Further complicating her situation, questions have arisen regarding Khedkar’s claimed Other Backward Classes (OBC) status and disabilities, which she purportedly used to avail of concessions during the UPSC selection process. Reports indicate she declined mandatory medical tests to verify these claims.
In a new development, an old video recently surfaced online showing Khedkar’s mother brandishing a gun while threatening a group of men, adding another layer of controversy to the ongoing scrutiny of her background and conduct.
The unfolding investigation and subsequent findings are expected to shed light on the veracity of these allegations, impacting Khedkar’s future within the Indian Administrative Service and highlighting the challenges of maintaining integrity and transparency within the civil services.
