Pune Police Arrest One Suspect in Gang-Rape Case, Two Others Remain at Large

Pune police have made the first arrest in connection with the brutal gang-rape of a 21-year-old woman on the outskirts of the city. The arrest comes a week after the woman was allegedly assaulted by three men in the Bopdev Ghat area on the night of October 3. The breakthrough followed an extensive investigation involving nearly 700 police personnel who worked tirelessly to identify and apprehend the suspects.

The woman was attacked while she was out with a male friend, who was also tied up and beaten by the assailants, according to the complaint filed by the victim. The police had launched a massive manhunt, analyzing hours of CCTV footage and employing advanced technical resources to track down the culprits. Their efforts paid off with the arrest of one suspect, while a search for the other two men is ongoing.

Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, commended the police for their swift action, stating that the force’s diligence led to this important development. “An incident that shamed humanity had taken place, but police have now arrested one accused, and the remaining two will also be caught soon as their whereabouts have been traced,” Fadnavis said during a press briefing.

Amitesh Kumar, Pune’s Police Commissioner, confirmed the arrest while speaking at the launch of new projects for the Pune police worth over ₹700 crore. Kumar revealed that the police had offered a ₹10 lakh reward for information on the culprits, and multiple teams had been mobilized to track them down.

The Home Minister assured the public that the government is committed to ensuring the strictest punishment for the accused. “The culprits will face the harshest penalties for this heinous crime,” Fadnavis emphasized.

The police continue their efforts to locate the remaining two suspects and are confident that they will be apprehended soon. The case has sent shockwaves through Pune, with residents and authorities calling for justice and heightened security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
