    Dr. Ramesh Babu Peramsetty, a celebrated Indian-origin physician, was tragically shot and killed in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Friday. Dr. Peramsetty, who hailed from Tirupati district in Andhra Pradesh, was a prominent figure in the healthcare community and a founder of the Crimson Network, a group of local medical officers.

    Dr. Peramsetty was known for his extensive contributions to the medical field and operated several hospitals across the United States. He was actively involved in emergency and family medicine and was affiliated with the Diploma in Child Health (DCH) Regional Medical Center. His impactful work, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic, earned him significant recognition and accolades.

    The Crimson Care Network, which Dr. Peramsetty was a part of, expressed their grief in a Facebook post: “As many are aware at this moment, we have been informed of Dr. Ramesh Peramsetty’s passing. The Peramsetty family asks for us to give them privacy as they grieve his passing. They have received an abundant outpouring of love and faith. We will continue to honor him as he would want us to do. Thank you for your understanding.” The network has indicated that more statements will follow in the coming days.

    Dr. Peramsetty graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin and Sri Venkateswara Medical College in 1986, accumulating 38 years of experience in the medical field. His dedication to his profession was recognized locally, with a street in Tuscaloosa named in his honor due to his significant contributions.

    In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Peramsetty made notable philanthropic efforts, including a donation of ₹14 lakh to Menakuru High School in Andhra Pradesh, his alma mater, and funding for the construction of a Sai temple in his village.

    Dr. Peramsetty is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters, all of whom are settled in the United States. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation, and the medical community and local residents mourn the loss of a distinguished and compassionate physician.
