“Sanjay Nirupam Claims Preemptive Resignation Ahead of Congress’ Swift Action”

Congress Expels Sanjay Nirupam; Former MP Resigns Amid Controversy

In a recent turn of events, the Congress party has expelled Sanjay Nirupam, a former Member of Parliament, for a period of six years. This decision comes in the wake of allegations of indiscipline and anti-party statements made by Nirupam, particularly regarding the party’s alliance with Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.

Nirupam, who received the expulsion letter from Congress immediately after sending his resignation, expressed surprise at the promptness of the party’s action. He shared his resignation letter dated April 3, highlighting the timing of the expulsion following his resignation.

The controversy stemmed from Nirupam’s criticism of Congress’s alliance partner Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Thackeray, over seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. His remarks sparked discontent within the party, leading to his expulsion and removal from the list of star campaigners for the polls.

Nirupam’s desire to contest from the Mumbai North-West seat, where he lost previously to Shiv Sena’s candidate, was met with opposition from within Congress. His statements against Shiv Sena’s candidate and allegations of irregularities further fueled tensions within the party.

Following his expulsion, Nirupam has kept his options open, hinting at potential discussions with other political parties. Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule extended a welcoming gesture to Nirupam, suggesting that individuals aligning with the BJP’s ideology are always welcome.

Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena has also indicated openness to Nirupam’s joining, subject to a final decision by party leader Eknath Shinde.
