Surat police have registered FIRs against the parents of Class 12 students after a viral video showed underage students driving high-end luxury cars, performing stunts on city roads. The incident took place on February 7, when a group of students attended their school farewell in a convoy of 35 expensive cars, including BMWs, Maseratis, Mercedes, and Porsches.
The video, which sparked outrage, showed some students recklessly sitting on car doors, sticking their heads out of sunroofs, and waving smoke guns. The students were reportedly heading to a farewell function at Fountainhead School in Surat’s Olpad area. Following the controversy, the school clarified that students were strictly instructed not to drive to the school, even if they had valid licenses.
Police Action and FIRs
Authorities have seized 22 of the 35 vehicles and identified 26 of them. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) RP Barot stated that six FIRs were registered at Pal police station in connection with the incident.
“We identified 26 of the 35 cars and have seized 22 so far. Their owners have been issued notices. In the video, three students were seen driving without valid licenses, while the remaining vehicles had hired drivers,” Barot told reporters.
FIRs were lodged against the parents of these three students under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (actions that endanger the safety of others or human life) for allowing them to drive without a license. Additionally, three more FIRs were filed against hired drivers who performed dangerous stunts, under Section 281 (rash or negligent driving).
Public Outrage and Road Safety Concerns
The video has sparked concerns over road safety and parental responsibility. Many residents have criticized the reckless behavior, warning that such stunts could have led to serious injuries or even fatalities. Police have urged parents to ensure their children follow traffic laws and refrain from engaging in dangerous driving activities.
