A 17-year-old juvenile involved in a high-profile Porsche car accident in Pune has completed a mandatory Regional Transport Office (RTO) training session, following a directive from the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB). The training, which focused on traffic rules and road safety, aimed to educate the young driver on legal responsibilities and responsible behavior behind the wheel.
The accident, which occurred on May 19, 2024, resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals in the Kalyaninagar area. The victims were riding a motorcycle that was struck by a speeding Porsche allegedly driven by the minor in an inebriated state. The case garnered national attention, leading to intense scrutiny and public outrage.
According to officials, the RTO training was conducted in accordance with court orders and included both indoor and outdoor sessions. “We have completed the training as per the court’s directive,” said Archana Gaikwad, Regional Transport Officer at Pune RTO. “The sessions covered various aspects of traffic laws, driving techniques, and the importance of responsible behavior on the road.”
The Juvenile Justice Board had mandated this training as part of a broader set of corrective measures. As part of his bail conditions, the juvenile was also required to write a 300-word essay on road safety. In July, he submitted the essay, which detailed his reflections on the accident and his fears surrounding the incident.
The case drew widespread media coverage, particularly after the JJB granted bail to the juvenile with specific conditions. These included not only the essay but also participation in traffic monitoring activities alongside traffic department officials.
The RTO’s confidentiality policies prevented further details from being disclosed. However, Gaikwad confirmed that the training was comprehensive and aimed to address the critical aspects of safe driving and legal responsibilities.
This incident has highlighted the ongoing need for effective traffic safety education and responsible driving practices. The completion of the RTO training represents one of the many steps in the juvenile’s path towards understanding and rectifying the consequences of his actions.
