Recent developments surrounding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health and treatment in Tihar jail have sparked controversy, with conflicting reports emerging about his insulin requirements. The jail authorities at Tihar Jail have submitted a report to the Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG), stating that doctors from RML Hospital did not recommend insulin for Kejriwal and that his blood sugar levels were not at an alarming level.
According to the report accessed by news agency ANI, Kejriwal’s medical condition did not warrant insulin, and he was instead advised to take oral anti-diabetic drugs. This report comes amidst allegations from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claiming that Kejriwal was denied insulin as part of a conspiracy to harm him.
The Enforcement Directorate, which arrested Kejriwal in connection with a money-laundering case related to the Delhi liquor probe, informed the court that Kejriwal had been consuming high-sugar foods in an attempt to raise his sugar levels and potentially seek bail on medical grounds.
Contrary to AAP’s claims, the Tihar jail report indicated that Kejriwal had been following an insulin-reversal program and had stopped taking insulin before his arrest, relying solely on the anti-diabetes medication Metformin. The report further stated that Kejriwal had been consuming a diet including high-sugar items like sweets, fruits, and other sugary foods due to being allowed home-cooked meals.
In response, Delhi Minister Atishi criticized the report, alleging a conspiracy by the BJP and asserting that Kejriwal had been taking insulin for the past 12 years. Atishi highlighted concerns about Kejriwal’s blood sugar levels and the perceived reluctance of the jail administration to administer insulin when necessary.
