In Odisha’s Ganjam district, a devastating head-on collision between two buses has resulted in the loss of twelve lives and left several others injured. The incident took place late on Sunday night near Digapahandi on the Berhampur-Taptapani road, approximately 35 km away from the city of Berhampur. The collision occurred when a bus carrying members of a wedding party collided with another passenger vehicle.
According to Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M, the victims were returning to Khandadeuli near Digapahandi after attending a wedding ceremony in Berhampur. Tragically, the collision claimed the lives of twelve individuals, including seven members of a family and their relatives. The injured were promptly rescued by a team of police personnel who rushed to the scene. They were then swiftly transported to MKCG Medical College and Hospital as well as Digapahandi Hospital for medical treatment.
The severity of the injuries compelled authorities to transfer two of the wounded individuals to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for specialized care. Recognizing the financial burden faced by the injured, the special relief commission has sanctioned ₹30,000 for each of them to cover their treatment expenses.
