Tragedy struck at the Elante Mall in Chandigarh as an 11-year-old boy, Shahbaz Singh, lost his life in a toy train accident. The incident occurred on Saturday evening, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Shahbaz, hailing from Nawanshahr in Punjab, was visiting the mall with his parents when the unfortunate accident took place. Riding in the last compartment of the toy train with his cousin, Shahbaz suffered severe head injuries when the train overturned during the ride.
Despite swift medical attention and being rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, Shahbaz succumbed to his injuries. His body was handed over to his grieving parents following the completion of an autopsy on Sunday evening.
The Chandigarh Police swiftly responded to the incident, registering a case under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code, which addresses cases of death by negligence. Deputy Superintendent Ram Gopal of the Chandigarh Police shared that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of negligence and the role of the toy train operator.
Shahbaz’s father, Jaitenderpal Singh, recounted the tragic sequence of events, highlighting that his son was seated alongside his cousin in the last compartment when the train overturned. The CCTV footage from inside Elante Mall captured the heartbreaking moment, showing Shahbaz leaning outside the compartment as the train turned, leading to the fatal accident.
The video, now viral on social media platforms, depicts the immediate aftermath of the incident, with onlookers rushing to assist. The police have seized the toy train as part of their investigation, examining all angles to establish accountability and ensure such accidents are prevented in the future.
