Two people lost their lives, and one other was critically injured in a tragic accident on the Delhi-Noida Link road late on Saturday night. A speeding Bolero SUV reportedly lost control, jumped the divider, and collided with multiple vehicles before crushing a BluSmart cab. Police suspect drunk driving to be the cause of the incident.
The victims have been identified as Suman Dhoopra (63) and her husband Sanjiv Dhoopra (67), who were returning home from a family function in Noida. They had booked a BluSmart cab for their journey. The cab, driven by 32-year-old Arjun Solanki, was traveling along the link road when the Bolero SUV, coming from the direction of Akshardham Temple, veered across the divider. The SUV first struck a Baleno car before crashing into the cab, leaving one side of the vehicle completely crushed.
Local residents quickly rushed to the scene to help, and all three injured — Suman Dhoopra, Sanjiv Dhoopra, and Arjun Solanki — were rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, Suman and the driver, Arjun, were declared dead on arrival. Sanjiv’s condition remains critical, and he is being treated at the hospital.
Police reports suggest that alcohol bottles were found inside the Bolero SUV, leading authorities to suspect that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. An FIR has been filed at the Mayur Vihar police station, and investigations are underway to apprehend the accused.
Arjun Solanki, the cab driver, was the sole breadwinner for his family, which includes his parents, wife, and two children, living in Greater Noida. His cousin, Yogesh, expressed grief over the incident and stated, “The Bolero driver was drunk and the SUV crushed his cab. He was simply going to drop off passengers.”
The accident has sparked widespread outrage, with local authorities and the public urging for stricter enforcement of road safety laws and tougher penalties for drunk driving.
