As a heartwarming gesture to celebrate the festive spirit of Rakshabandhan, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a special initiative to provide complimentary bus travel for women. This thoughtful tradition, which has been in place for several years, will be observed from midnight on August 30 to midnight on August 31.
The directive for this initiative was issued by the state’s administration earlier in the week. This privilege will extend to 14 districts in Uttar Pradesh, facilitated through Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs), according to Kalyan Banerjee, the state’s joint secretary.
Women across these districts, including prominent cities such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Meerut, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Moradabad, Jhansi, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Shahjahanpur, Agra, and Mathura-Vrindavan, will be able to access free travel services on city buses during this period.
Banerjee highlighted that this isn’t the first time the state government has organized complimentary bus transportation for women on Rakshabandhan. The tradition was initiated by the administration several years ago and continues to be a thoughtful and heartwarming gesture that resonates with the festive ethos of the occasion.
This endeavor by the Uttar Pradesh government not only adds a special touch to the Rakshabandhan celebrations but also serves as a commendable effort to appreciate and support women’s mobility and convenience during this festive period.
