In a concerted effort to expedite the evacuation of 41 workers trapped in a tunnel, authorities have initiated a green corridor leading to the Chinyalisaur Community Health Centre. The establishment of this corridor aims to ensure a rapid and well-organized response for the swift transportation of the rescued workers.
The condition of the road leading to the tunnel, deteriorated by the continuous passage of heavy vehicles over the past two weeks, is being promptly addressed. Repairs are underway, with a fresh layer of soil being laid to facilitate the unimpeded passage of the 41 ambulances expected to transport the workers.
Security personnel have been strategically positioned around the tunnel’s periphery, ready to swiftly implement the evacuation protocol as soon as the workers emerge from the rescue passage. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conveyed that the arduous pipe-laying work to reach the trapped workers has been successfully completed.
“Thanks to the immense grace of Baba Baukh Nagji, the prayers of millions across the country, and the relentless efforts of all rescue teams, the task of laying pipes in the tunnel to extract the workers has been accomplished. Soon, all our laborer brothers will be safely brought out,” said Chief Minister Dhami in a statement in Hindi.
A specialized team of 24 seasoned “rat-hole mining” experts is currently engaged in the intricate manual drilling process. Their objective is to excavate a narrow passageway leading to the trapped workers, utilizing their expertise to navigate the challenging conditions within the tunnel.
Addressing concerns about the workers’ ability to maneuver through the narrow 2.5-feet diameter pipes, rescue officials emphasized their prior experience in working within 2-foot pipes. To ensure their safety during the extraction process, each worker will be equipped with a helmet, a uniform, a mask, and protective glasses.
The collaborative efforts of the rescue teams, coupled with the preparations made to secure a smooth passage for the ambulances, reflect a concerted endeavor to ensure the safe and timely extraction of the trapped workers. The green corridor stands as a testament to the coordinated response and dedication of all involved parties in this challenging rescue operation.
