In a significant development, a Bengaluru court has issued a non-bailable warrant against senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa. This action comes after Yediyurappa failed to appear for questioning in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The former Chief Minister has since sought relief from the high court, with the matter slated for a hearing tomorrow.
The controversy stems from allegations of sexual assault leveled against Yediyurappa by a woman regarding her 17-year-old daughter. The incident allegedly occurred during a meeting at Yediyurappa’s residence back in February. The case was officially registered on March 14, subsequently transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Karnataka police for further investigation.
Despite the summons issued by the CID, Yediyurappa cited political commitments in Delhi as the reason for his inability to appear for questioning on Wednesday. He expressed willingness to cooperate with investigators on Monday. However, this stance has not prevented legal actions from progressing against him.
The situation has intensified following the complainant’s tragic demise due to lung cancer last month. This development adds a poignant layer to an already contentious case, fueling public interest and scrutiny.
