11 Militants from Banned Outfits Arrested in Manipur Security Raids

11 Militants Arrested in Security Raids Across Manipur: Police

In a series of security operations across Manipur, police apprehended 11 members of various banned militant outfits, including the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA). The arrests were made in the Imphal East, Kakching, and Thoubal districts on Tuesday, highlighting ongoing efforts by security forces to curb militant activities in the region.

Four militants from the banned KCP (PWG) were detained in Mantripukhri French Colony, Imphal East, for allegedly threatening the public by planting hand grenades in various locations within the valley. The police recovered two pistols, two magazines, and ammunition from the arrested individuals.

In another operation in Imphal East, three additional militants from the same outfit were arrested in Keirao Wangkhem. Security forces seized five firearms, ammunition, and a wireless communication device from their possession.

Separately, a member of the proscribed PLA was arrested from Sawombung Kabui Khunjao in Imphal East for his involvement in extortion activities. Authorities recovered two pistols, a hand grenade, and a detonator from him.

The raids also led to the arrest of two active members of the banned KCP (Apunba) from an abandoned house in Wangjing Awang Leikai, Thoubal, for their involvement in extortion. Furthermore, one cadre of the KCP (Taibanganba) was arrested from Angang Ching Crossing in Kakching district.

These arrests come amid ongoing security operations in the state, which have intensified following the ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities that erupted in May 2023. The violence has claimed more than 260 lives and displaced thousands of people. In response to the situation, the Indian government imposed President’s Rule in the state on February 13, 2024, following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

The recent arrests reflect the heightened security measures being implemented to combat militant activities and ensure peace in the region as authorities continue to tackle the challenges of ethnic unrest and insurgency in the state.
