As the much-anticipated ‘pran prathishtha’ ceremony for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya approaches on January 22, a dedicated team of confectioners from Varanasi is working tirelessly to prepare approximately 45 tonnes of besan laddoos for distribution to devotees and VIPs in attendance. The sweet treats, arranged in trays that spell out the name ‘Ram’ in both Hindi and English, add a thoughtful touch to the sacred occasion.
In a video shared by the news agency PTI, the hall dedicated to the laddoo preparation showcases the ongoing efforts to ensure the timely production of these delectable sweets. The laddoos, known for their pure desi ghee base, are enhanced with delightful flavors of cardamom, cashews, and saffron.
The laddoos, expected to have a shelf life of three to four months, will be distributed to devotees visiting the Ram Temple during the ceremony, which is scheduled to continue until February. Ratan Lal Agarwal, a confectioner, shared that the prasad package will include not only the laddoos but also a book, jhola, and a chunni adorned with the name ‘Ram’.
VIPs attending the ceremony on January 22 will receive a specially designed tiffin box featuring the sticker of Lord Ram and a depiction of the Ayodhya Temple. The distribution of these special prasad items is part of the elaborate arrangements to make the ‘pran prathishtha’ ceremony memorable for all attendees.
Ashok Yadav, a worker involved in the laddoo preparation in Ayodhya, highlighted the traditional method used in creating this special treat, stating, “We are combining one kilogram of besan with one kilogram of sugar and one kilogram of cow ghee.” He proudly described the laddoo as a renowned delicacy from Banaras (Varanasi).
The meticulous preparations and symbolic presentation of the laddoos add an extra layer of significance to the upcoming ceremony, creating an atmosphere of sweetness and devotion around the momentous occasion.
