In a tragic incident in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, the boundary wall of the renowned Mahakal Temple collapsed on Friday evening due to continuous heavy rainfall in the area. The incident has resulted in the deaths of two individuals, with several others feared trapped beneath the rubble.
Rescue operations are currently underway as emergency teams work to locate and save those trapped. Reports indicate that approximately a dozen people may be buried under the debris, while at least four individuals have already been rushed to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.
Ujjain District Magistrate Neeraj Kumar Singh confirmed the fatalities and stated that the wall collapse occurred due to the overwhelming flow of water caused by the incessant rain. “A part of a boundary wall near Maharajwada School collapsed due to heavy flow of water. Four people were injured in this incident and brought to the district hospital. One man and one woman have died, while a girl and another woman have been referred to Indore for further treatment,” Singh informed PTI.
Ashok Patel, the Chief Medical Officer of Health, also provided updates on the situation, confirming that four people were admitted to the hospital, with two declared dead and the other two currently receiving treatment. His team remains on standby to assist any additional victims who may be brought in.
Visuals from the scene depict streets flooded with water, complicating rescue efforts. Security and rescue teams have been seen navigating the waterlogged streets to reach those trapped in the collapsed structure.
This incident follows a previous tragedy at the Mahakal Temple earlier this year when a fire erupted during Holi celebrations, leading to one death and multiple injuries. The local community is now grappling with another disaster as rescue efforts continue at the site of the wall collapse.
