In a surprising turn of events, former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has announced his foray into the realm of Andhra Pradesh politics, marking the commencement of his second innings in public service. After retiring from cricket just a month ago, Rayudu has been actively engaging with the people of his native Guntur district, aiming to understand their issues and concerns at the grassroots level.
During his visit to Mutluru village of Vatticherukuru block in Guntur district, Rayudu expressed his intentions to enter politics and serve the people of Andhra Pradesh. He emphasized his commitment to visiting various parts of the district to gauge the pulse of the people and gain a deep understanding of their problems. Rayudu’s aim is to formulate a concrete action plan on how to contribute effectively in politics, as well as determine which political platform to align himself with.
Rayudu dispelled rumors suggesting his potential candidacy in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Guntur or Machilipatnam parliamentary constituency. Instead, his current focus lies in connecting with the rural areas of Guntur and identifying the needs of the local population.
While the cricketer has not officially declared his party affiliation, his social media activity has sparked speculation that he might join the YSR Congress party. On April 19, he took to Twitter to praise Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s speech in Srikakulam district, expressing his complete belief in the leader. Furthermore, following Chennai Super Kings’ victory in the IPL-2023 tournament, Rayudu met with the chief minister and the CSK management to discuss the development of sports infrastructure and education for the underprivileged.
During his visit to Guntur district, Rayudu also indirectly criticized opposition Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, highlighting the need for genuine development rather than mere construction of buildings.
Rayudu’s decision to enter politics has stirred considerable interest, and his approach of personally engaging with the people to better understand their needs is being seen as a positive step. As he continues his extensive tour of villages and towns in Guntur, the former cricketer aims to make an informed decision on which political platform to align himself with.
The political landscape in Andhra Pradesh awaits the next moves of Ambati Rayudu, as he seeks to bring his dedication and experience from the cricket field to the service of the people in his new role as a politician.
