Telangana Member of Parliament (MP) Kotha Prabhakar Reddy faced a shocking attack while on a campaign trail in Siddipet district. The incident occurred as he was walking towards the home of a local pastor. An unidentified man approached the MP, appearing to extend a handshake, but abruptly pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the stomach.
Quick action by Bharatiya Rashtriya Suraksha (BRS) workers at the campaign rally resulted in the assailant’s capture and subduing. Law enforcement authorities have taken the attacker into custody, and his identity is currently under verification, as confirmed by Siddipet Commissioner of Police N Swetha.
MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, representing the Medak Lok Sabha constituency, sustained injuries to his abdomen during the attack. He has been transferred to Gajwel government hospital for medical treatment, and reports indicate that his condition is stable.
In response to the shocking incident, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed his concerns and pointed to potential political motives behind the attack. He visited the BRS candidate in the hospital and stated, “Our patience is being tested. The attack is not on the BRS candidate but on me. If they do not stop this and exercise self-control, we can also get down to this kind of violence and no one will get spared.”
Telangana minister T Harish Rao also condemned the attack, labeling it as unacceptable. He urged for democratic means of expression instead of resorting to such acts of violence.
Kotha Prabhakar Reddy was recently announced as the BRS candidate for the Dubbaka constituency, where he will challenge incumbent BJP MLA Raghunandan in the upcoming polls on November 30. Reddy’s political journey began in 2014 when Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao vacated the Medak Lok Sabha seat to contest in the assembly elections.
Visuals from the scene show Prabhakar Reddy pressing the stab wound on his stomach, likely to control bleeding, while seated in a vehicle. The incident has sparked concerns about the safety and security of politicians during campaign activities in the region.
