Local train services on the Western Railway network faced significant disruptions on Monday morning due to technical issues arising from a cable cut at Borivali station in Mumbai. This incident, impacting platforms 1 and 2, has affected the smooth operation of suburban trains in one of Mumbai’s busiest railway hubs.
Borivali station, known for its heavy footfall of commuters and office-goers, witnessed a halt in services from these platforms as a result of the cable damage, rendering some track changing points non-operational. However, train operations continued on the remaining platforms, from 3 to 8, to mitigate the impact on commuters, according to Western Railway officials.
Efforts to address the affected points were promptly initiated, with clamping and restoration work underway on a priority basis to restore normalcy to the Western Railway network. This disruption comes as a challenge for the railway system, which typically operates over 1,300 suburban services daily, catering to approximately 30 lakh commuters across its extensive route spanning from Churchgate in south Mumbai to Dahanu in Palghar district.
The inconvenience caused to passengers underscores the importance of maintaining robust infrastructure and swift response mechanisms to handle technical glitches, ensuring the smooth and safe functioning of Mumbai’s vital transport lifeline. Railway authorities are working diligently to rectify the issue and resume full services at the earliest for the convenience of the traveling public.
