Tragic Suicide of Senior Bureaucrat Couple's Daughter Shocks Mumbai

In a heart-wrenching incident that has sent shockwaves through Mumbai, Lipi Rastogi, the 27-year-old daughter of senior Maharashtra cadre IAS officers Radhika and Vikas Rastogi, died by suicide in the early hours of Monday. Lipi was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed during treatment.

The circumstances surrounding Lipi’s suicide are deeply saddening. She reportedly jumped from the 10th floor of a building near the state secretariat around 4 am. A note found in her room suggests that Lipi, a law student studying in Haryana’s Sonepat, was struggling with exam-related anxiety.

This tragic event has cast a pall over the Rastogi family, known for their contributions to the state’s Education and Home Departments through their respective roles as Principal Secretaries. Vikas Rastogi serves in the Education Department, while Radhika Rastogi is associated with the Home Department.

This is not the first time such a tragedy has struck the bureaucratic community in Maharashtra. In 2017, Milind and Manisha Mhaiskar, also Maharashtra cadre IAS officers, faced a similar loss when their 18-year-old son took his own life by jumping off a high-rise building in Mumbai.

The untimely loss of Lipi Rastogi highlights the silent struggles faced by many, even those seemingly in positions of privilege. Mental health issues, particularly among students facing academic pressure, continue to be a pressing concern that requires attention and support from all sectors of society.
