AP MLA Amanatullah Khan Booked for Allegedly Aiding Escape of Attempted Murder Accused

The Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA-elect Amanatullah Khan for allegedly leading an attack on a police team in Jamia Nagar to help a proclaimed offender escape from custody, an official told PTI on Monday.

    Allegations Against Amanatullah Khan

According to the police, Khan and his supporters obstructed law enforcement officers from discharging their duties while they attempted to arrest Shabaz Khan, a suspect in an attempted murder case. The incident reportedly took place in the Jamia Nagar area, where AAP supporters confronted the police team, allowing Shabaz to flee.

A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the matter and stated that the FIR has been filed against Khan and his supporters for obstructing a public servant from performing their duty.

Following the incident, a Delhi Police team arrived at Khan’s residence. A video shared by ANI showed police personnel stationed outside his house.

An aide of Khan told ANI, “We don’t know what the matter is. We work in the office. When the police arrived, the doors were shut. They asked us to open them for inspection, and we cooperated. They found nothing and have now left. They did not disclose the reason for their visit.”

    Previous Legal Issues

Khan, who recently won the Okhla assembly constituency for the third consecutive time, was granted bail on November 15 last year, two months after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Waqf Board.

    AAP’s Victory in Okhla

In the recent Delhi Assembly elections, Khan defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Manish Chaudhary by a margin of 23,639 votes. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate Shifa Ur Rehman, currently in jail for his alleged involvement in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case, secured the third position with 39,558 votes.

Khan, in a statement to PTI, accused the Congress of prioritizing AAP’s defeat over its own electoral success. “The Congress contested the election not to win but to ensure our defeat. Rahul Gandhi campaigned in my constituency for the first time ever. They knew they had no chance of winning but were determined to make us lose,” he alleged.
