Arvind Kejriwal Administered Insulin in Tihar Jail Amid Rising Blood Sugar Levels

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health has become a focal point of concern as he received insulin in Tihar jail on Monday night after his blood sugar levels soared to 320, far above the ideal range of 70 to 100. Kejriwal, who is diabetic, had been vocal about the jail administration’s alleged failure to provide him with insulin despite repeated requests.

The situation escalated when Kejriwal accused the Tihar jail administration of neglecting his medical needs, a claim refuted by the jail authorities. According to them, during a video consultation with specialists from AIIMS, the issue of insulin and its necessity was not raised by Kejriwal.

The controversy surrounding Kejriwal’s medical treatment has taken a political turn, with AAP leaders accusing the BJP-led central government of deliberately withholding insulin. Delhi Minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj criticized the BJP, questioning why insulin was being administered now if it wasn’t deemed necessary earlier.

A city court intervened, directing AIIMS to form a medical board to evaluate Kejriwal’s medical requirements, particularly regarding insulin. The court highlighted discrepancies in his dietary regimen, noting differences between his home-cooked food and the doctor-prescribed diet.

In response, Kejriwal vehemently rejected the jail administration’s claims that he never raised the issue of insulin. He insisted that he had consistently demanded insulin over a span of 10 days.

The AAP has alleged a conspiracy by the Tihar administration to harm Kejriwal, while the Delhi BJP president countered, suggesting that AAP leaders were seeking public sympathy during the Lok Sabha elections.

Amidst these accusations and counter-accusations, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) accused Kejriwal of consuming sugary foods regularly, implying an attempt to exploit his health condition for legal advantage. Kejriwal dismissed these claims, asserting that his elevated sugar levels were well-documented and he had repeatedly requested insulin.

Kejriwal’s arrest by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the Delhi government’s excise policy has led to ongoing legal battles. His petition challenging the summonses issued by the probe agency will be heard by the Delhi High Court on May 15.
