“Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba Gets One-Year Extension, Key Role in Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act”

Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba Granted Third One-Year Extension, Key Architect of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019

The Indian government has granted a one-year extension to Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba beyond his previous tenure, which was scheduled to end on August 30, 2023. According to an order from the Personnel Ministry, this marks the third extension for Gauba in the prestigious bureaucratic position. He was initially appointed to the role in 2019 for a two-year term and subsequently received one-year extensions in 2021 and August of the previous year.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has formally approved the extension of Gauba’s service. As a 1982-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer belonging to the Jharkhand cadre, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership and expertise in various capacities during his distinguished career.

Rajiv Gauba is widely acclaimed for his role as the mastermind behind the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. This historic legislation led to the division of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. The reorganisation followed the abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which granted the region special status.

Throughout his career, Gauba has held several critical positions within the government. Before assuming the role of Cabinet Secretary, he served as Union Home Secretary, overseeing crucial responsibilities such as the management of left-wing extremism division and playing a pivotal role in internal security affairs.

Hailing from Punjab, Rajiv Gauba pursued his academic journey in Physics at Patna University. His dedication and contributions to public service have earned him recognition and respect within the administrative circles.

Prior to his appointment as Cabinet Secretary, Gauba served as the Chief Secretary of Jharkhand for a 15-month tenure. He later transitioned back to the central government in 2016 to further contribute to the nation’s progress.

The extension of Rajiv Gauba’s tenure as Cabinet Secretary reflects the government’s trust and confidence in his leadership abilities. As he continues in this pivotal role, Gauba’s wealth of experience and administrative acumen are expected to contribute significantly to the governance and development of the country. His visionary approach and strategic planning have been instrumental in implementing transformative policies, making him an invaluable asset to the Indian bureaucracy.

As the nation moves forward with its development agenda, Rajiv Gauba’s tenure extension serves as a testament to his exceptional track record and commitment to public service.
