“Congress Unveils Manifesto: Affordable LPG Cylinders, Health Insurance, and More for Mizoram”

Congress Releases Mizoram Manifesto, Promises LPG Cylinders at ₹750, Health Insurance, and More

The Congress party has unveiled its manifesto for the upcoming elections in Mizoram, outlining a series of promises aimed at improving the well-being of the people in the Northeastern state. If voted into power, the Congress has committed to a range of welfare measures, with a focus on affordability, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

Key highlights from the manifesto include the promise to provide LPG cylinders at the affordable price of ₹750. This initiative is aimed at ensuring that households have access to clean cooking fuel at an affordable cost. In addition, the Congress is committed to offering health insurance coverage of up to ₹15 lakhs, providing essential financial protection to residents for their healthcare needs.

The party has also addressed the needs of elderly citizens, pledging to increase the Old Age Pension to ₹2,000 per month. This measure aims to improve the financial security of senior citizens in the state.

Recognizing the importance of supporting entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for the youth, the Congress plans to establish the “Young Mizo Entrepreneurs Program (YmElevate)” with provisions for startup funding. The goal is to create 1 lakh jobs for young Mizos, fostering economic growth and livelihood activities.

The manifesto also focuses on the welfare of those without government employees in their families. It promises health insurance coverage of up to ₹15 lakhs for these families, ensuring that they have access to quality healthcare services. Furthermore, the Congress is allocating a budget of 5 crores for terminally ill patients, emphasizing the importance of compassionate care and support.

The party is dedicated to assisting widows and the differently-abled by enhancing support under the National Social Assistance Program to ₹2,000 per month.

Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Chief Spokesman Ronald Sapa Tlai emphasized that the Congress aims to establish an efficient, transparent, and corruption-free government. The party also intends to empower local bodies and village councils, promoting grassroots democracy.

The upcoming elections in Mizoram are scheduled for November 7, and they hold significance as they precede the Lok Sabha elections in April-May of the following year. The Model Code of Conduct has come into effect with the announcement of poll dates. The outcome of these elections will shape the political landscape of the state and impact the lives of its citizens. The results will be announced on December 3, 2023, in all states with elections.

In the previous 2018 Mizoram assembly elections, the Mizo National Front secured 26 out of 40 seats with a vote share of 37.8%, emerging as the victor. The Congress secured five seats, and the BJP won one seat in that election.
