Dehradun Tragedy: Speeding Mercedes Runs Over Four Labourers, Two Seriously Injured

Speeding Mercedes Kills Four Labourers in Dehradun Hit-and-Run, Two Injured

A tragic hit-and-run incident in Dehradun claimed the lives of four labourers and left two others seriously injured after a speeding Mercedes rammed into them near Sai temple on Rajpur Road on Wednesday evening. Police have launched a manhunt to track down the occupants of the luxury vehicle, which bore a Chandigarh registration number.

According to officials, the Mercedes was being driven recklessly when it plowed into four pedestrians before hitting a scooter (UK 07-AE-5150), critically injuring two riders. The impact was so severe that all four pedestrians died on the spot, while the two injured victims were immediately rushed to a hospital.

    Victims Identified

The deceased have been identified as Mansharam (30) and Ranjit (35), both hailing from Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The identities of the other two victims are yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, the two injured survivors—Dhaniram from Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, and Mohammad Shakib from Sitamarhi, Bihar—were initially taken to Uttarakhand Hospital before being shifted to Government Doon Medical College for further treatment.

    Police Investigation Underway

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajai Singh visited the accident site and confirmed that both survivors suffered leg injuries and are undergoing treatment. He added that the bodies of the four deceased have been taken for post-mortem, and police have initiated legal proceedings.

“We are conducting an intensive search operation and have alerted all police stations through the control room to apprehend the car’s passengers,” Singh stated.

    Rising Road Accidents in Dehradun

This incident follows a similar crash on November 12, when six people lost their lives after an Innova, allegedly speeding, collided with a container truck at ONGC Chowk.

Dehradun records over 1,000 road accidents annually, with its mountainous roads and unpredictable weather conditions worsening the risk. The danger intensifies during monsoon and winter seasons when reduced visibility makes driving even more hazardous.

    Uttarakhand’s Road Safety Measures

In an effort to cut road accidents by 50% by 2030, the Uttarakhand cabinet, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, approved the Road Safety Policy 2025 on February 12. The policy aims to:

    • Improve road safety infrastructure
    • Enforce stricter traffic regulations
    • Raise public awareness
    • Strengthen emergency medical services for accident victims
    • Promote research on road safety

Authorities have urged citizens to follow traffic laws and report reckless driving to prevent further tragedies like the Dehradun hit-and-run.
