Delhi Court Warns AAP's Sanjay Singh Against Making Political Speeches During Proceedings

A Delhi court has reprimanded Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh for using the courtroom to make political speeches during a money laundering case in which he is involved. The Rouse Avenue Court issued a stern warning while hearing the case against the AAP Member of Parliament.

The courtroom exchange occurred when Sanjay Singh mentioned the name of industrialist Gautam Adani. Special Judge MK Nagpal responded by saying, “If you’ve to give a speech about Adani and (PM Narendra) Modi, I’ll ask for your production through video conferencing from now onwards.” The judge emphasized the need to maintain the focus of the courtroom on relevant legal matters.

During the proceedings, Sanjay Singh vigorously alleged that the investigating agencies had not taken action on his complaint against Gautam Adani. In response, the court directed Singh not to discuss “unrelated matters” during the hearings.

Singh, who is also a Rajya Sabha member, raised concerns about the nature of questions asked during his custodial interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He stated that the ED primarily inquired about money transfers to family members and criticized the agency for not addressing his complaint against Adani.

Following the hearing, the judge issued an order regarding the application from the ED, which sought to extend Singh’s judicial custody for two weeks. Consequently, Singh’s judicial custody has been extended until October 27.

Sanjay Singh’s involvement in this case stemmed from a raid and custody following allegations made by businessman Dinesh Arora, who later became a crucial informant for authorities. The agency alleges that Singh arranged a meeting between Dinesh Arora and Manish Sisodia, the Delhi government’s excise minister at the time. Sisodia has been arrested by both the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

While the Enforcement Directorate has filed multiple chargesheets in the case, it has not formally named Sanjay Singh as an accused or summoned him to provide a statement. However, Singh’s mention in the agency’s documents has sparked significant political controversy.

This case continues to draw attention as it raises questions about the intersection of legal proceedings and political rhetoric in India.
