The Delhi Police have launched a multifaceted investigation into the murder case of a Swiss woman, whose body was discovered in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar. The victim’s gruesome demise has led the police to explore potential money and human trafficking angles. In a startling development, crores of rupees were uncovered at the residence of the arrested accused, Gurpreet Singh.
According to an exclusive report by the Indian Express, the police initially located ₹two crores at Gurpreet Singh’s residence. Subsequent raids led to the discovery of several more crores of rupees, for which Singh could not provide a satisfactory explanation. In light of these findings, the police have engaged Income Tax officials to ascertain the source of the money.
In addition to the financial aspect, law enforcement agencies are delving into potential human trafficking connections. The report indicates that investigators are considering adding human trafficking charges against Singh based on evidence obtained from his phone. Sources close to the investigation suggest that the police came across numerous photos and videos of the accused with different women and girls, raising suspicions of his involvement in human trafficking within and around the Delhi-NCR region.
Gurpreet Singh was apprehended by the Delhi Police on Saturday, employing a combination of technical and manual intelligence methods. His arrest came a day after the shocking discovery of the Swiss woman’s decomposed body, which had been bound with chains, near a school in the national capital. The upper portion of her body was concealed within a black garbage disposal plastic bag.
The sequence of events leading to the murder reveals that Singh and the victim had met during a trip to Switzerland several years ago and had since developed a friendship. However, while Singh aspired to turn their relationship into a romantic one, the woman was not inclined in that direction. Singh persisted, maintaining contact through chats and phone calls.
Eventually, the woman traveled to India on October 11 to meet Singh. During her stay at a Delhi hotel, the accused requested a meeting outside. On a fateful Wednesday morning, he strangled her to death in a hatchback car, which he had acquired using documents belonging to another woman. While some details of the gruesome incident have been established, Singh’s explanations have been inconsistent and have evolved over time.
Concurrently, the Delhi Police have sought the assistance of the Ministry of External Affairs to contact the family members of the Swiss national. “Establishment of contact with the family members is very important to confirm whether the body is actually of a Swiss national as claimed by Singh. Through DNA sampling, we will be able to confirm the identity of the body, and our headquarters has requested the MEA to intervene and reach out to Swiss authorities for help,” stated an official involved in the case.
