A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday at Central Textile Mills in the Solapur MIDC area, claiming the lives of eight people, including three women and a one-and-a-half-year-old child. The blaze, which authorities suspect was triggered by a short circuit, erupted around 3:45 am and quickly engulfed the premises.
According to officials, the fire originated at the factory located on Akkalkot Road, approximately 400 km from Mumbai. Among the deceased is the factory owner, Haji Usman Hasanbhai Mansuri, along with three members of his family—including his infant grandson—and four factory workers.
The fire, which rapidly spread through the facility, took firefighters nearly five to six hours to bring under control. Rescue and firefighting operations were ongoing as emergency responders worked to ensure the flames were fully extinguished and to assess the damage.
“The intensity of the blaze was extremely high, which made the firefighting operation both difficult and prolonged,” said an official at the scene. “Sadly, despite our efforts, eight people lost their lives.”
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the short circuit and assess whether safety protocols were in place and followed.
This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for rigorous fire safety measures and regular electrical inspections, especially in industrial zones housing labor-intensive operations.
