In the wake of the controversy surrounding Puja Khedkar, a former trainee IAS officer accused of submitting fake disability certificates, another former bureaucrat, Abhishek Singh, is now under scrutiny for similar allegations related to his disability claim.
Abhishek Singh, who resigned from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) last year to pursue a career in acting, recently came under fire after videos of him dancing and exercising in a gym went viral on social media. Critics have questioned the authenticity of his claimed locomotor disability, which he cited to avail concessions during his UPSC selection process.
Responding to the allegations, Abhishek Singh defended himself, stating that he has faced criticism due to his support for reservations and social initiatives, including “United by Blood” and the “No-Shame Movement.” He emphasized that his achievements were the result of hard work and not due to reservation benefits.
“I move on the strength of my talent, confidence, and courage, not in anyone’s favor,” Singh stated in a post on social media.
The controversy surrounding Singh comes on the heels of the Puja Khedkar scandal, where the 2023-batch IAS officer faced accusations of falsely claiming visual and mental impairment to secure her position without undergoing mandatory medical tests. The Centre has initiated a probe into Khedkar’s case, with potential outcomes including dismissal and criminal charges if found guilty of misrepresentation.
Both cases have sparked debates about transparency and accountability in the bureaucratic selection process, with calls for stricter scrutiny and adherence to guidelines regarding disability claims.
