“Family of Five Swept Away in Lonavala Waterfall Tragedy Near Bhusi Dam”

Lonavala, June 30: In a tragic incident this afternoon, five members of a family, including a woman and a teenage girl, lost their lives after being swept away by a waterfall near the backwaters of the Bhusi Dam in Lonavala, near Mumbai.

The incident occurred around 1:30 pm when the family was holidaying in the scenic area. According to reports, the victims slipped into the waterfall and were swept downstream into the reservoir. Promptly after the incident, local authorities and residents initiated a search and rescue operation.

“Rescuers equipped with ropes and trekking gear are currently engaged in locating the bodies of the victims,” stated local police officials involved in the operation.

Initial reports suggest that the tourists may have slipped on mossy boulders at the base of the falls, leading to the tragic accident. The force of the water is believed to have swept them away before they could be rescued.

“The five tourists slipped into the waterfall and drowned in the reservoir downstream,” reported news agency PTI, citing police sources. Locals in the area have also expressed concerns over the slippery conditions around the waterfall during this time of year.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been officially disclosed, pending notification of their families. Authorities are continuing their efforts to recover the bodies and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Bhusi Dam area, known for its picturesque landscapes and waterfalls, attracts visitors from near and far, especially during the monsoon season when water levels can be unpredictable and conditions around water bodies can be hazardous.
