A devastating collision on a highway in Uttar Pradesh turned fatal late last night as a car, engulfed in flames, claimed the lives of eight individuals, including a child, after colliding with a truck in Bareilly. The harrowing incident occurred when the car, centrally locked, became a death trap for seven adults and a child, unable to escape the blaze that ensued.
According to police reports, the burning car was noticed on the Nainital highway, positioned adjacent to the truck, indicating a collision resulting in a catastrophic fire. Tragically, the car’s doors had presumably jammed post-collision, sealing the fate of those inside.
Authorities disclosed that the car had reportedly swerved into the opposite lane due to a punctured tire, leading to the collision with the truck. By the time law enforcement arrived at the scene, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames, leaving little chance for rescue.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Bareilly, Sushil Chandra Bhan Dhule, elaborated on the incident, stating, “The car collided with a truck on the highway near Bhojipura and got dragged, due to which it caught fire. It was centrally locked, hence the people inside lost their lives due to the fire.”
The victims, who were en route to attend a wedding, tragically met their untimely demise. Their bodies have been dispatched for post-mortem examinations as part of the investigation into the incident.
Eyewitness testimonies suggested that the car had been speeding and breached a portion of the divider, resulting in its traversal onto the other side of the highway. The vehicle, belonging to a grocery shop proprietor identified as Sumit Gupta, had been lent to the victims. Police indicated that the identification of all the victims is yet to be completed.
The tragic collision has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the unforgiving consequences of road accidents and the urgent need for vehicular safety measures. As authorities continue their investigations into the circumstances leading to this fatal incident, the loss of eight lives, including that of an innocent child, remains a poignant reminder of the risks on the highways.
