In a heart-wrenching incident on Saturday, four people from a family, including an elderly couple, lost their lives when their car rammed into a stationary truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district. Two other family members were seriously injured in the crash, which occurred on National Highway-2 near the Sujanipur crossing in Khaga, Fatehpur.
The family was en route to Prayagraj to immerse the ashes of their son, who had tragically drowned during a visit to the Omkareshwar Temple in Madhya Pradesh just a week ago. According to the police, the elderly couple, Ram Kumar Bhargawa, a retired railway official, and his wife Kamlesh Bhargawa, were traveling with their son-in-law Prag Chaubey, driver Shubham Yadav, and other family members when the car collided with the stationary truck.
Upon receiving the distress call, the local police and rescue teams rushed to the scene. After breaking the car’s windows, they discovered that three of the occupants had already died. A fourth person, who was critically injured, was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, they too succumbed to their injuries later. The surviving family members, Charu Bhargawa, a software engineer, and her young son Kashvik, were immediately transferred to the district hospital in Fatehpur where their condition remains critical.
The deceased have been identified as Ram Kumar Bhargawa, his wife Kamlesh Bhargawa, their son-in-law Prag Chaubey, and driver Shubham Yadav. The tragic accident comes just days after the family had mourned the untimely death of their younger son, Aditya Bhargawa, who had drowned during a holy dip. His body had been recovered earlier this week, and his funeral was conducted just a day before the fatal accident.
The police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the collision. Furthermore, a manhunt has been launched for the truck driver, who fled the scene shortly after the accident, leaving behind the stationary vehicle that contributed to the fatal crash.
As the family grapples with overwhelming grief, authorities have promised full support in the investigation and expressed condolences for the tragic loss. Local police are working to bring the driver to justice while also providing assistance to the surviving members of the family.
