    GE Signs Mega Deal with Indian Air Force to Manufacture Fighter Jet Engines during PM Modi’s Historic US Visit

    In a significant development aimed at bolstering defense cooperation between the United States and India, GE Aerospace, a prominent American aerospace company, has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a state-owned Indian aerospace manufacturer. The agreement entails the production of fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force, marking a major milestone in the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two countries. The announcement comes amid Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to the United States.

    The MOU includes provisions for the joint production of GE Aerospace’s F414 engines in India, as part of the Indian Air Force’s Light Combat Aircraft Mk2 program. Lawrence Culp, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GE and CEO of GE Aerospace, expressed his pride in the historic agreement and acknowledged the longstanding partnership between GE and HAL. He highlighted the unmatched capabilities of the F414 engines and emphasized their ability to meet the evolving needs of the Indian military fleet.     As part of the deal, GE Aerospace will contribute to the Light Combat Aircraft Mk2 program by building 99 engines for the Indian Air Force. This commitment further strengthens GE’s presence in India and positions the company to develop a family of products in the country. Additionally, GE Aerospace’s F404 engine, which currently powers the LCA Mk1 and LCA Mk1A aircraft, has been identified for the prototype development, testing, and certification of the AMCA (Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft) program. GE affirmed its dedication to collaborating with the Indian government on the AMCA Mk2 engine program.
