Tragedy struck in Haryana’s Jhajjar district as Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Haryana unit chief, Nafe Singh Rathee, fell victim to a fatal shooting by unidentified assailants on Sunday. Rathee, a two-time former MLA, was travelling in an SUV accompanied by his nephew Rajesh when the harrowing incident unfolded.
Reports indicate that Rathee’s killers spared his nephew’s life, instructing him to relay the gruesome events to others. The assailants reportedly shot Rathee while he was seated in the rear seat of the vehicle, with Rajesh occupying the front seat. Despite the heinous act, Rajesh was left unharmed to serve as a witness to the crime.
As investigations unfold, the Haryana police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against four individuals, including former MLA Naresh Kaushik, Ramesh Rathee, Sathish Rathee, and Rahul. Authorities are diligently scouring CCTV camera footage from nearby areas in pursuit of leads, with initial findings revealing the suspects’ presence near the crime scene.
Meanwhile, senior INLD leader Abhay Chautala has condemned the state government’s failure to provide adequate security to Rathee despite prior knowledge of threats to his life. Chautala has called for the resignation of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Home Minister Anil Vij, emphasizing the need for accountability in ensuring the safety of public figures.
