In a heart-wrenching incident in Hyderabad, an 18-month-old boy tragically lost his life after being mauled by a pack of stray dogs. The incident occurred in the Jawahar Nagar area on Tuesday night while the toddler, Vihaan, was playing outside his home.
According to police reports, a stray dog attacked Vihaan and dragged him away, with other dogs joining in the attack, causing severe injuries. Upon hearing his cries, Vihaan’s parents, Bharat and Lakshmi, rushed out and managed to scare away the dogs. However, by the time Vihaan was rushed to the hospital, his injuries proved fatal.
The devastated family, who had migrated to Hyderabad from Siddipet, lodged a complaint with the Jawahar Nagar police, prompting them to register a case in response to this tragic incident.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the incident and instructed officials to take immediate action against the increasing problem of stray dogs in the city. He emphasized the need for establishing a dedicated call centre or toll-free number to address public complaints regarding stray dog incidents.
This incident has once again highlighted the persistent issue of stray dogs posing a danger in Hyderabad and its surrounding areas. Dog bite cases are reported daily across the city, underscoring the urgent need for effective measures to tackle this menace.
This is not the first such tragic incident involving stray dogs in Telangana. In May, a five-month-old baby boy was similarly attacked and killed by a dog in Vikarabad district. Earlier incidents have also seen young children fall victim to stray dog attacks, despite sporadic efforts by municipal authorities to mitigate the risks posed by stray animals.
