IMD Issues Yellow Rain Alert for Multiple States, Urges Precautionary Measures

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall across several states in central and north India until February 13, cautioning residents to prepare for potentially severe weather conditions. The alert encompasses regions including Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra’s Vidarbha, and Gangetic West Bengal.

According to the official statement released by the IMD, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds is expected in various states from February 11th to 14th. Particularly, east Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand are forecasted to experience adverse weather from February 12th to 13th, while Maharashtra’s Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and Gangetic West Bengal are on alert for February 12th to 14th.

The IMD’s projections extend to Odisha from February 12th to 16th and Uttar Pradesh from February 12th to 14th, indicating a heightened risk of rainfall during these periods. Additionally, the statement highlights a predicted rise in minimum temperatures by 2°C-4°C over northwest and east India in the coming days, although isolated cold wave conditions are anticipated in pockets of Himachal Pradesh and east Rajasthan on February 12th.

Notably, the IMD’s advisory also warns of squally winds with speeds ranging from 45-55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, in the Comorin area. Moreover, the Gulf of Oman adjoining the northwest Arabian Sea is expected to experience squally weather with wind speeds reaching 40-45 kmph, gusting to 55 kmph. Fishermen operating in these regions have been advised to exercise caution and avoid venturing into the sea until conditions improve.

Sunday saw minimum temperatures ranging from 7°C-11°C across many areas of the northern plains, with certain regions experiencing temperatures below the normal range. Notably, Amritsar recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 4.6°C, highlighting the significance of weather monitoring and preparedness during this period.

As the IMD continues to monitor weather patterns closely, residents and authorities in the affected states are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate potential risks associated with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. Stay tuned for further updates and adhere to safety guidelines issued by local authorities to ensure personal well-being and community resilience amidst changing weather conditions.
